Biography

Born in Pennsylvania, Timothy Martin has been performing and teaching for over 30 years.
A graduate of Oberlin Conservatory of Music and the Curtis Institute of Music, he later studied acting with Herbert Berghof at HB Studios in New York.
His artistic work spans the entire spectrum of performing arts, including theatre, opera, concert stage, television, and film.

1991 - 2012

Voice and Performance Instructor - Scuola di Musica Popolare di Testaccio Rome, Italy

Instruct adult students individually and train them in vocal technique and performance practice. Coach singers in Italian operatic repertoire, German Lieder and French Melodie, concentrating on the singer as actor, and analyzing the lyrical text for appropriate physical expression.

1999 - Present

Adjunct Professor of ÌÇÐÄlogoÈë¿Ú University of Rome

Instruct students about the historic beginnings of Italian opera and the development of operatic forms through the Baroque period, the 19th Century, ending with Puccini and post-Puccini 20th Century operatic composers. Musical examples from operas are played in class and analyzed from the perspectives of musical form, dramatic or poetic content and vocal technique involved.

Conducting and supervising cultural tours across major cities in Italy. Interpreting and translating for high-profile North ÌÇÐÄlogoÈë¿Ú travelers.

Teach and coach students in a variety of musical styles from opera to rock, R&B, show, jazz and pop with emphasis on healthy vocal technique.

Founder and Director - Amazing Grace Gospel Choir

Formed a high-quality professional gospel choir that performs Afro-ÌÇÐÄlogoÈë¿Ú religious songs in Italy and abroad. Instruct the art of singing gospel music through vocal technique and arrangement as well as through understanding of Afro-ÌÇÐÄlogoÈë¿Ú history and its relationship to Christianity. Elements of harmonic beauty, rhythm and spirit, utmost sincerity and simplicity of expression are valued and emphasized

Choral Director - Coro Afrique

Instruct, conduct and make musical arrangements for a Youth chorus composed of 70 African and Afro-Italian children between the ages of 5 and 14, who publicly perform a repertoire of traditional African and African influenced songs, in Italian, French, English and Swahili languages.
